5,000 locomotives to have 'CCTV cameras' soon..

Over the past few months, trains have been plagued by accidents such as fires and derailments. In order to avoid accidents and run trains safely, the Railway Board is conducting inspections in all railway zones including signal and track safety sections.

CCTV cameras have been installed in the station officers room and signal control rooms and video recording is being done. In this case, the Railway Board has ordered all Zonal General Managers to install cameras in 5,000 locomotives and monitor them.

In this regard, railway officials said, 'Currently, surveillance cameras are installed in more than 500 train engines. In the next phase, 5,000 locomotives are equipped with cameras. In the next step, cameras are going to be installed in 5,000 locomotives.

Train drivers said, 'We are not against the installation of surveillance cameras in train engines. Similarly, the drivers should be provided with necessary facilities including toilets.'
