Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Vande Bharat train service between Chennai and Tirunelveli on 24-09-2023 through a video conference. The people of the southern district of Tamilnadu are very happy because of this.
As of 24 September 2023, 34 Vande Bharat Express trains are in service, which includes fourteen 16-car services and twenty 8-car services.
The 20665/20666 Chennai Egmore - Tirunelveli Vande Bharat Express is India's 28th Vande Bharat Express train, which is running across the state of Tamil Nadu by connecting the cities of Chennai and terminating at Tirunelveli.
This train is connecting Chennai Egmore, Tambaram, Villuppuram Jn, Tiruchchirappalli Jn, Dindigul Jn, Madurai Jn, Virudhunagar Jn and Tirunelveli Jn.
It is the twenty-sixth 2nd Generation and fourteenth Mini Vande Bharat 2.0 Express train which was designed and manufactured by the Integral Coach Factory at Perambur, Chennai under the Make in India Initiative.
The 20665/20666 Chennai Egmore - Tirunelveli Vande Bharat Express has currently 7 AC Chair Car and 1 Executive Chair Car coaches. The coaches in Aqua color indicate AC Chair Cars and the coaches in Pink color indicate AC Executive Chair Cars. The fare for AC chair car from Tirunelveli to Chennai Egmore with food is ₹1,665 and without food is ₹1,355 and for executive chair car is ₹3,055.
The 20665/20666 Chennai Egmore - Tirunelveli Vande Bharat Express will operate 6 days a week (except tuesday), covering a distance of 650 km (404 mi) in a travel time of 7 hrs 50 mins with average speed of 83 km/h. The Maximum Permissible Speed (MPS) is 110 kmph.

New Features based on passengers feedback:
The new trains herald a new standard of rail service and is equipped with world-class amenities and advanced safety features, including Kavach technology.
The seat reclining angle in the newly launched trains has been raised from 17.31 degrees to 19.37 degrees.
The hardness of cushion optimised and the colour of seat in executive class coach has been changed from red to pleasant blue.
Moreover, the new changes incorporated also include improved accessibility of mobile charging point under the seats, extended footrest for seats and magazine bags for executive class coach-end seats as well.
In the improved features, wash basin depth to avoid splashing of water in lavatories has been included.
Apart from this, the lighting in toilets improved from 1.5 watts to 2.5 watts, toilet handle given additional bend for improved grip and water tap aerator to better water flow control.
The new feature also include provision for securing points for wheel chairs of Divyangjan passengers in driving trailer coaches.
The new trainsets also have improved air tightness for better air-conditioning with insulation over panels, better roller blind fabric with more tear strength with less transparency and smooth touch controls for luggage rack lights by changing from resistive touch to capacitive touch, as reported by PTI.
Other feature also include the improved aerosol based fire detection and suppression system inside the coaches.
